Hello everyone! We hope you’re eagerly reading and following Timothy’s novel, Captivated. Tim is taking a well-deserved break from chapter-posting this week, so here’s one of my archived devotions. Enjoy!

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)
When I was a kid in the early 1980’s, my parents and I could only do two things with the telephone in our house: make calls and get calls. The phone had a dial and a bell that rang when someone called, and there was a cord that ensured you would be stuck in one place while you talked to whoever was on the line. The phone was a nice invention, but you’d only use it if you wanted to talk with somebody.
Nowadays our phones are tiny computers in disguise, and we can load them up with programs that can help us do pretty amazing things. We can get directions, check the weather, read books, play games, and even make purchases by tapping buttons on our phones. For blind people, there are apps that will describe pictures taken with a phone’s camera, and there’s even an app that will pair a blind person with a sighted volunteer, in order to solve any problem requiring a working set of eyes. Clearly, we can do much more than talk on our phones today.
Some people believe God is like a cell phone. By this, I mean they try to turn God into their personal genie. They ask for what they want, and they believe they’ll get their wish immediately. But God’s answers may not come as quickly as we’d like in these modern times, when we can get practically anything on our phones.
I believe God’s communication with us is like a conventional phone line. His proverbial line is always open, and we can always call him by praying and telling Him our concerns and asking our questions. According to the hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, we should consider it a “privelege to carry everything to God in prayer”. God urges every one of us to cast all of our cares on Him, because He cares so much for us. If you’re facing a tough situation, put it in God’s hands.
Whatever your problem or question might be, God wants to talk with you. He wants to have a loving and meaningful relationship with you, and all it takes to start that relationship is some heartfelt conversation between you and God. We may not always get quick answers like we can on our phones, but God will always answer our prayers and talk with us, if we’re willing to listen to his conversation on the other end of his proverbial phone line.
In one way, God is better than any cell phone or computer. Technology will sometimes fail us, but God will never fail us! He has promised never to leave us or forsake us, so we can totally depend on Him and His answers to our prayers.
Give God a call today, because He would always love to hear from you!
