Greetings Saints and Friends,
”Good morning, Glenna!” “Good morning, Gladys! How are you today?” “Oh dear, like every day, I am blessed beyond what I deserve.” “O, me, too!”
“I can tell that, Glenna, but there seems to be a little extra joy-bubble about you. What is it?” “Well, Gladys, Mother’s Day is coming up and for so many years I dreaded the mention of Mother’s Day.” “Why’s that, dear?” “When I was a young mother, my precious baby became ill, fell asleep, and never woke up.” “Oh honey, I’m so sorry.” “It has taken awhile to work through. And while I do not think I will ever be completely free of that feeling of loss on earth, there is a reason I have joy around Mother’s Day.” “What is it?” “What really helped me and has given me the joy I have around Mother’s Day, is when I heard Pastor White speak years ago about how babies are treasured by God. The Bible speaks of how each one is a gift from Him. And though we do not understand why some only live for a short while here, we have a strong indication from God that we will see them again in heaven.” “Did he say where in the Bible we can have that kind of sure hope – that we will see them again?” “Yes, he did. In 2 Samuel 12, David’s son, by Bathsheba, became ill. Though David prayed and prayed for healing of the son, he died. When David was asked by his servants why he was not mourning the loss of the son, David responded that he could not bring his son back to him, but that he would go to be with him. 2 Samuel 12:23 David is with that son now.” “I never thought about that, Glenna. But there is something I do recall. While we know from the Bible that David had other children, in the very first verse in the New Testament, Matthew 1:1, we are told that David had a very special Son – ‘Jesus Christ, the Son of David.’ Because He was King David’s son by lineage, Jesus is rightly called King. And because Jesus is the Son of God, Matthew 14:33, He is called Lord. Even King David, before Jesus was born, called Him his Lord.” Psalm 110:1 “I wonder what His mother, Mary, called Him?” “I don’t know, but what stories she must have had to share about her Son!”
“Yes. Like when she was still a young woman, before knowing a man, God sent the angel Gabriel to tell her, ‘Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a son, and shall call His name JESUS.’” Luke 1:26-31 “Or can you imagine the joy she must have known when God sent the shepherds to worship baby Jesus when He was born?” “It must have been exciting to hear them tell how the angels appeared to them and announced Jesus’ birth.” “I have sometimes pictured in my mind the day, when Jesus was a little older, Mary heard the sound of camel hoofs parking outside their door. Then the ‘knock’ on the door and behold, she was greeting the wise-men who brought their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh and worshiped the Christ child.” “I wonder what it was like to go to wedding parties and people always pointing you out?” “That’s right. She was at the wedding party when Jesus performed His first miracle. When she heard that the wine had run out, she simply told the servants, ‘Whatever He says to you, do it.'” John 2:5
“But, Gladys, like any mother she knew times of sadness, too. Who can imagine what she felt when she stood by the cross of Jesus? John 19:25 I’m sure for three agonizing days Mary mourned the death of Jesus as only a mother could. ‘My son, I don’t understand – the angels, the shepherds, the miracles, I don’t understand. But God, I trust You!’ Then on that third day, John went into the tomb where the body of Jesus had been placed. He found Jesus had risen like He said He would do! He ran home and told Mary the best news she could ever hear, ‘Jesus is alive!’ The ecstatic joy that Mary must have felt.” “I agree. And there is a great joy that any person can have because Jesus is alive. He died and rose again to pay the price for our sins, that we can enjoy heaven in His presence forever. Jesus said, ‘For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.’ John 3:16 And anyone can tell Him from their heart, ‘Thank You, Jesus, for paying for my sins when You died for me and rose again. Amen'” “Gladys, like so many other women this Mother’s Day, I’m so looking forward to seeing my baby who has gone before me. And, of course, thanking Jesus in person who has made it possible.”
