“Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.”
–Deuteronomy 7:9 (NLT)
Was there ever a time in your life when things didn’t go as expected, and you felt totally lost? How did you get through that troubling time in your life? Did your family and friends help you out, or did you rely on the power and faithfulness of God?
Timothy and I had an interesting adventure a few days ago. We went to visit a friend in a local nursing home. We asked which room our friend was in, and the receptionist informed us that he was in a different building. Unfortunately our cab driver had already left. Of course we don’t drive a car, since we’re both totally blind.
At first, Tim was in favor of going home. But I convinced him that we should find our own way to this building. So we set off, praying that God would get us there safely.
It took us a while, but we made it out of the parking lot and walked up to the street corner. With God’s help and the use of our own mobility skills, we managed to turn the right corner and find the right driveway. More importantly, we found the right building, and we were soon visiting our friend in his room.
This unexpected little adventure was just one of many times when God helped us get through a “curveball” moment in our lives. We were tempted to give up and go home, but instead we put our trust in God, and He was faithful to us in return.
God wants to show this same faithfulness to you. As our opening scripture states, He has promised to love and protect you once you have decided to accept and trust in Him.
This decision is not an easy one for most people. We tend to think we’re always in control, and we know exactly what to do at any given time. But this belief will quickly fade once the storms of life blow in. God’s love and faithfulness is the only foundation that will withstand these storms, no matter how treacherous they become.
Besides our love and trust, God asks one more thing of us: the obedience of His commands. He wants us to love one another as He has loved us, and He urges us to take His message of love out into our corrupted world. He wants us to pray on others’ behalf, and assist and minister to people in our communities.
If we strive to do all these things and worship God in creative ways throughout the day, He has promised to give us His eternal love and faithfulness. In other words, He is quick to forgive our sins, and He will be there to help us overcome any tough times that come our way.
If you already know and follow God, please continue to worship Him, love Him and trust in Him as you navigate through life. If you don’t know Him yet, I hope you will begin studying His word, and I pray you will decide to follow and love Him. Wherever you are in your walk with God, I encourage you to continue growing closer to Him, studying His word, and striving to obey His commands. If you will do these things, God will gladly be your faithful guide whenever big problems or small adventures come your way.
