“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!”
–Genesis 28:16 (NLT)

Have you ever been totally lost within a situation? You probably felt as though you had no control over what would happen, and no matter how hard you tried, you would never be able to solve your problem. But I’m here to assure you that God is right there with you, ready to help you out.

Timothy and I spent quite a few weekends at the shopping mall when we were dating. One Saturday afternoon, I was making a purchase in a store, and we were trying to figure out how to find a particular restaurant. Since we’re both blind, we couldn’t simply look at a map. We decided the best course of action was to walk around and ask other shoppers for directions. We learned from a sales clerk that the restaurant was on the other end of the mall, so we figured it would take a long time to get there.

Just then, a fellow customer had heard us talking. She told us she happened to be heading towards our intended dinner destination, and she offered to guide us there herself. We were very glad she had decided to help us out, and we thanked her several times once we reached the restaurant door.

While we waited for our dinner, we talked about what had happened. I thought it was all a lucky coincidence, but Timothy confided that he had been praying that God would help us, and help had arrived in the form of that kind shopper. I also believe that God had come through for us, although I hadn’t prayed at the time.

Whenever you feel like you’re lost without a road map, just like we were on that Saturday in the mall, don’t spend your time worrying about your problem. Turn to God, and you’ll discover that he’s always been there, waiting to give you directions.

So if you’re in a difficult situation, I encourage you to call upon God and ask for His wisdom and guidance. And if you don’t know or love God yet, I challenge you to take the time to study His Word and learn about His steadfast love for you. Then, spend some time in prayer, repent your sins and ask Him into your heart today.

This situation is probably much less complicated than what you may be going through right now, but if you choose to believe in and follow Him, God will be there to help you, even when you don’t know or believe that He is present. The apostle Paul wrote that nothing on Earth, in Heaven or in Hell can ever separate us from our loving God. So if you feel like Abraham, and you don’t know that God is there, allow Him to show you that He is always wherever you are.
