“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
–Psalm 119-11 (ESV)
Remember how we used to hide from each other when we were kids? Or how a few weeks before Christmas our parents would always hide our presents from us, but we always had a pretty good idea where they were?
I remember one Christmas when I really wanted a skateboard. When Christmas morning finally came, I was given a huge box, with lots of newspaper inside. I remember my excitement as I ripped the box open, sifting through papers and tossing them aside. Finally, to my great joy, I discovered my new treasure on wheels.
In the same way that I searched through that box of paper for my skateboard, the Bible tells us to actively search God’s word, storing it in our hearts. If we do this, our lives will not only be pleasing to Him, but we will find the guidance that we seek. The Bible is like a road map, helping us navigate this crazy thing called life. I understand that in many situations there seems to be no answer to our questions, but I also know that the Bible can offer us hope and direction at these times.
I know this is true because I have often had to face problems alone, with God’s word being my only source of support or strength. As a blind man I have been told many times what I cannot do, but God’s word tells me about all the things I can do.
God says that all things are possible with Him, and that nothing is too hard or trivial for Him. After dealing with life’s problems alone for a while and doing some soul-searching, I chose to listen to God, and he has opened up some amazing doors in my life.
Regardless of your situation, God wants to be there for you too, but you must take the first step and actively hide His word in your heart. Set aside a few minutes each day when you can be alone with Him, and let His word speak to you. Also, listen to music that is permeated with scripture, for God tells us in the tough times we face, He will bring much-needed scriptures back to our minds. Thirdly, go where you are fed the Word, and let people love and support you there.
As you take these three simple steps, you will find a new sense of confidence and stability in your life. As you faithfully study His word, you will learn more and more that you serve a God who looms larger than any problem you may encounter, and that He will go through all of the dark times with you. He will never leave you or forsake you, if you choose to believe in Him.
