Are you trusting or rusting?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Keep His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
–Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
Are you an armchair Christian, or do you serve God and others in whatever ways you can? If a piece of metal is not used, it will rust under the right conditions. If we don’t trust God and do what we can to serve Him, then we will inwardly rust ourselves. So it is our mission to trust in God, listen to His word, and further His good works.
In our culture, we tend to think that bigger is better. This is not always the case, as Jesus often demonstrated. Look at the story of the widow’s offering with me:
“Jesus sat down near the collection box in the temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. Jesus called his disciples to him and said,
“I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”
–Mark 12:41-44 (NLT)
Many times we can only do a little bit, but God can multiply that tiny amount, like He did with the loaves and fish.Although it may seem like you can hardly help at all, God is more desirous of service when it is done for Him, than He is with a huge donation that’s given with the wrong motive.
We can all perform small but very kind services for others. For instance, you could send a comforting email or visit someone who is sick. So don’t let the fact that you can’t do great things stop you from doing anything at all. Jesus told us that the greatest person is the one who served others, so step out in faith today to be his hands and feet in a hurting world.
