“For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long, yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!”
2 Corinthians 4:17
A few years ago, I started searching for a new apartment closer to the hospital where I work. I went to see several different places, and each apartment promised to be better than the last, but they all seemed about the same to me. In the end, thanks to God and one of my friends, I was able to move into a nice house.
My apartment search prompted me to think about just how temporary our sojourn on this Earth really is. Some people believe this world is all there is, so they invest all their time and money in their short lives on Earth. However, the children of God don’t belong to this world. They have all been promised a permanent home in heaven, once our brief time on Earth is over.
Are you investing your time and treasures in a temporary, apartment-style world that you will have to leave one day? Or are you focusing on your permanent home in God’s eternal kingdom? In other words, where is your heart resting? When trials come, do you know that they will pass away with God’s help, or does everything collapse around you? Think about that in light of what you are going through, and ask God if you need Him to help you adjust to your situation. I urge you today,my friend: Don’t put all that you have into a sinking ship. Instead, let God take control of the ship of your life.
No matter what you are facing, let God guide you into the eternal sea of His love. Then, while things may remain turbulent around you, you will quickly find the peace you have been searching for.
